HOW TO GET OUT OF A RUT

All of us have phases in our lives during which we are...well stuck. Our days go on in monotonous routines and everything is a blur. And I feel like this phase has been another wonderful side-effect of the lockdown. Along with of course an inexplicable fear of fellow human beings and an instant aversion to open, public places. I know. Mortifying to even think about it, isn't it? So I came up with a list of things you could try doing to cheer yourself up for a bit.

Dress Up: Are you dreaming about sunbathing on the beach? Or just can't wait to dine in a restaurant? Just dress the part and with a few additional props like an elaborately cooked dish or just take out from your favourite hotel, and you can recreate your mind's wish right at home.

Have a private dance-off: This is something every one of us has done at some point in our lives. All we need to do is lock ourselves in the bedroom, blast our favourite song and just follow the beats. Is there anything more satisfying?

Run: Do you remember when we used to play tag as kids? We literally ran like our lives depended on it. And I truly believe nothing in this world could beat that high. Go on a run but run like when you were a child. Run like Phoebe.

Shop: Retail therapy is a real thing. I wouldn't say it is the most effective form of therapy but it is a great temporary one. I think. If only we could buy stuff anytime we wanted to, it is an amazing quick fix to a stressful and anxiety-filled lifestyle. But unfortunately, that's not the case. So what I do is wishlist all the stuff I want to buy and promise myself that I will buy them at a later time. I won't of course. But it makes me feel better at that moment.

Practise your Award Acceptance Speech: Don't deny it. All of us have a spectacular speech prepared for the time we would probably win an Oscar or a Grammy or a Nobel. Practise it or just write another new one for spare. Along with lifting your mood, I think it's also an amazing confidence booster. And you can't help feeling better by the end of it. And FYI my dream award is the Pulitzer. Comment yours down below!

Stop blaming the universe: This is more of a psychological approach but I think when we're in a rut and we're stuck, we try to find an outlet to all those feelings by blaming it on someone or something. But rather than making us feel better, the only purpose this serves is to make us feel like we are not in control of our lives and can't do anything to change our situation. And hence we are stuck in that perpetual circle of recurrence.

Start doing: Sometimes we realize what's wrong but we don't act to reverse the situation because of various reasons. And when sometimes it is wise not to leap, most of the time it's worth the risk.
